John is embracing a new challenge, having decided to forego his negotiations with tradies in favour of renovating his home himself. This not only grates on Justin’s hospitality after he and Leah have housed him for so long, but it also rings alarm bells for John’s personal safety, not being a licensed tradie. John isn’t having it though, he’s excited and Justin and Leah don’t have the heart to dissuade him.
Eden catches John siphoning electricity from over the fence because he’s secretly cut into a live wire, blowing his fuse. Eden turns a blind eye, but later when Alf flips at John for charging all his power tools in his Surf Club office, Justin catches wind of John’s antics and finds out about the extremely dangerous livewire situation.
Alf and Justin together give John a stern warning to discontinue the works, but he doesn’t listen. Justin follows him out the Surf Club and draws the hard line on his safety. John confesses that witnessing Sonny’s limitations made him hyper aware of his own, hence the ambitious project. Justin tells him to accept the help; it’ll make his life easier. With this newfound wisdom and clarity on his own situation, John decides to hire the tradie.
Remi’s medical condition is rapidly declining. Dr Swan is moments away from abandoning the case due to his apparent apathy towards treatment; the waitlist of patients who would jump at the idea of treatment from her is long. Eden and Levi convene at Salt to commiserate over Dr Swan’s lack of tact. Levi privately informs Eden that Remi’s prognosis is exactly as bad as Dr Swan made it out to be.
Sonny’s wracked with impatience at his stalled recovery. He laments being a burden to Eden, who’s got enough to deal with given Remi’s condition. In light of this, Sonny makes a pact with Eden not to argue with Remi, and so the boys sit on the patio and have a heart to heart about where they’re at with their respective conditions. Remi discloses that the surgery feels invasive towards his sense of identity, which helps Sonny understand why he’s been so hesitant to receive such treatment. Eden returns home with pizza, when she overhears Sonny begging Remi to accept the treatment.
The next day, Remi is playing guitar on the couch, and he forgets a chord… the threat of losing the thing he loves the most sobers Remi, and so he tells Sonny that he’s made a decision. Back at the hospital, Dr Swan has given up on the case and is on her way out of the hospital but is stalled by Levi.
At that moment the lift doors open revealing Remi accompanied by Eden and Sonny. He’s decided to go ahead with the surgery. During Dr Swan’s blunt disclosure of risk, Remi panics and almost withdraws, but Levi manages to calm him. Afterwords Levi asks Dr Swan whether he can be part of the surgical team; due to their relationship he believes he can be of use if he has another bout of anxiety during the procedure.
Meanwhile, Remi is covering his bases before the risky surgery. He calls his parents and asks if he can see them. He also writes a will, and forces Sonny to take it for him. When Remi leaves to get the surgery, Eden opens up to Sonny about her fear. Sonny, having been a support system for Remi, tells Eden that he’s decided not to continue with the rehab, so that he can stay and support Remi throughout his recovery.
