Alf decides not to go to Merimbula for his wife’s birthday because he refuses to leave Marilyn alone in the house with Zane. Marilyn reports to Leah and Justin, frustrated at Alf’s lack of trust for Zane. Justin can relate to Alf, but ultimately, Leah decides that they can’t let this happen. They ambush him at the Diner to explain that Zane can be trusted, Alf shouldn’t miss his own wife’s birthday. Justin promises to keep an eye on things while he’s gone, but Marilyn steps in – she’s perfectly capable of looking after herself! Alf agrees to go on the condition that if he catches wind of any trouble, he’s coming straight back.
Dana and Sonny are treading water, after navigating a deep breach of trust in their relationship. Sonny reassures her that they can get through it with better communication, but Dana isn’t so sure. Dana asks for some time alone. Sonny returns to the apartment shortly thereafter and tries to convince her to confide in him, but Dana is resigned… she tells Sonny that this is the end of their relationship. Sonny tries to argue, but Dana says she is beyond exhausted by the continuous lies… she’s going to move out.
Harper explains her justification for wanting to leave the Bay to Tane. Once he’s released from prison, Beau could find her and that would put Archie at risk. Tane argues that if she stays close to him, he can protect her, but Harper knows that’s unrealistic. Tane doesn’t want to be shut out of Archie’s life, but Harper’s priority is to protect Archie at every cost.
Harper relays her experiences of all the woman in the social system she’s personally helped who have had to disappear at the hands of abusive men. She gets on a call with Dana who tells her she’s decided to move out of her place with Sonny. Harper commiserates and shares her own news with her sister: She’s leaving the Bay with Archie. She asks Dana to pack up her things for her and bring them to the safe house. This sparks an idea for Dana.
Dana starts packing up her belongings, Sonny scrambles to make her stay – reassuring her that he will do everything in his power to earn back her trust. Dana reveals to Sonny that not only is she leaving the apartment, but she’s decided to leave the Bay with Harper. Sonny is shocked, trying to convince her otherwise – but the reality sets in – she’s going and not coming back. She wishes Sonny all the best – they hug, a bittersweet goodbye as their love is apparent.
Dana then goes to meet John and tell him that she’s going. They hug as John breaks down in tears, sad to see her go – she’s an amazing young woman and he hopes she finds what she’s looking for… he’s always here for her. Dana leaves, resolved with her decision. John shows up to support Sonny despite everything he’s going through – we all make mistakes. Sonny breaks down – he’s lost her forever.
Harper and Dana are back at the safe house. Tane says goodbye to Archie then hands him back to Harper. Harper asks if Dana is sure about her decision to leave with her – Dana reflects that the only reason Harper came to the Bay was to help Dana, and now it’s her turn to return the favour. Tane drives off, sad to say goodbye to his boy. Tane goes to Sonny’s house and confronts him – it’s time they had a chat.
