Marilyn checks in with Zane while they work at the Coffee Cart, and he is still troubled by thoughts of his victim from a decade ago who is still going through expensive surgery. Marilyn tries to keep things positive but her suggestions of reaching out again to the victim only cause him more upset. That night, whilst playing pool by himself in the Surf Club, he’s cold with David who is friendly as he passes by – can’t you see I want to be left alone?
The next morning, Zane’s still in a foul mood and Marilyn explains to David it’s very unusual for Zane to lose his temper, everything changed when they heard back from his victim’s family. She wonders if reaching out again might help but David shuts that down. They said no, let it be. Later, Zane apologises and tears up the victim’s medical bill paperwork and hands it back to Marilyn. It was the wrong decision to reach out, and he’s moving on.
Levi frantically researches Eden’s illness and Mackenzie encourages him to rest but he can’t get the image of losing Eden out of his head. That night, they open the door to Levi’s dad, Jimmy. Mackenzie has admittedly summoned him here against Levi’s wishes, but Levi’s very glad she did. He talks Jimmy through the lottery that is Eden’s chances when Abigail turns up too, sent home from work by Mackenzie to see Jimmy as well. Abigail is eager to find a way to let Jimmy visit Eden, and although Levi’s hesitant, she does convince him – we could at least ask the question?
Cash dotes on Eden, making her food, and heads to get a pizza from Salt. There, he runs into a concerned Abigail, and David, who’s eager to check in. Cash reports they’re just waiting for a stem cell donor. At night, Cash reveals to Eden that Jimmy is in town and she pleads for them to catchup again. Sure enough, Mackenzie and the Fowlers setup a picnic near the beach, excited to host Eden, and for her to see her dad. They’re all hyper aware how tired Eden will be and are vigilant about making it comfortable for her.
As Cash and Eden arrive, and he has to help her out of the car and walk across, Jimmy realises how bad things have become but keeps it positive – he’s always admired how stubborn she is. Abigail elaborates, what Jimmy means is they’re all in awe of her incredible willpower.
As Cash helps Mackenzie pick up the food from Salt, he gets fired up and emotional, explaining to her he’s worried this whole lunch is a bad idea, unsure they should be putting her at risk. He’s lost his mum, his dad, his sister… he cannot lose Eden as well.
