Cleddau is back for Sunday night drama on S4C, which begins at 9pm on 11th October, and you can catch up via S4C Clic and iPlayer.

A second series of Cleddau returns with another complex case for Detective Ffion Lloyd and her (professional) partner Detective Rick Sheldon.

When a body is found in the River Cleddau, the team suspects that a killer lured women to their death by using a dating app – one that Ffion herself has been using as she tries to move on with her love life after the incident with Rick, despite the fact that he is now separated and single…

Ffion is determined to solve the case, but she recalls a traumatic period from her time in Cardiff, and as her personal life becomes increasingly turbulent, she takes a risk that could ruin the investigation and her career.

Maybe only Rick, determined to make amends for his own mistakes, can save her.

The statistics speak for themselves as to why this outstanding drama is worth tuning in for. It’s S4C’s third most popular drama series since 2016 – after Craith a Y Gwyll (Hidden a Hinterland). As well as 4 BAFTA Cymru 2025 nominations it won the Best Drama category at the RTS Cymru awards 2025.

It also has record number of sessions on iPlayer for the S4C drama series with half of the digital viewing taking place before the linear broadcast.

Ahead of the new series launch Elen Rhys shared: I was thrilled to return for a second series, despite the challenges involved.

It was definitely a mountain to climb at times. Returning to the forensic world, working in two languages and stepping back into such an intense role all require a great deal of concentration. But I was so happy to be reunited with the cast and crew. We’re like one big family.

We built a really strong foundation in series one. The family dynamics, the workplace relationships and the investigative team were all established, so this time we were able to build on that and make the world even richer.

The second series has definitely moved up a gear. The visuals, the action sequences, the stunts and the scale of the storytelling have all been elevated. Anyone who enjoyed the first series will absolutely love this one.

Elen also revealed more on Ffion’s journey this series: When we first met DI Ffion Lloyd, she had returned to Pembrokeshire to help investigate a historic case that had shaped much of her life. Having grown up there, she had deliberately moved away to join the investigation team in Cardiff, partly to escape painful personal and professional memories, including her complicated feelings for Rick Sheldon.

By the second series, however, Ffion’s roots are firmly re-established in Pembrokeshire. Her father’s declining health gives her another reason to stay, and we find her in a very different place emotionally.

Ffion is naturally quite guarded and private. She’s not someone who opens up easily, and she’s certainly not the warmest or most approachable person. But because of her father’s illness, she’s almost forced to become more vulnerable.

Series two sees Ffion stepping outside her comfort zone and entering the world of online dating, allowing viewers to see a side of her that has previously remained hidden.

We’ve seen her relationship with Rick, but we’ve never really seen her flirt, date or allow herself to be vulnerable in that way. It was lovely to explore a different side of her character. I wanted to see her move forward, grow closer to the team and soften a little as a person. It’s a delicate balance though, because you don’t want to change her too much. She’s still very much Ffion.
