Having Sean Slater back in EastEnders has been on my wish list for a long time. He’s firey, sarcastic and an unpredictable character that you never know what is going to come next from him. Having Jack call on Sean to help in Amy’s time of need is a great return and I can’t wait to see how this unfolds.

Rob revealed that Sean’s never stopped thinking of Amy as his child, ‘He held her in his arms as his daughter and finding out she wasn’t his was the hardest thing that ever happened to him. He will protect her and love her as only a father ever could. He swore to Roxy that he would do so and nothing stops him keeping promises to Roxy.’

Despite the past resentment between Sean and Jack, Rob added: ‘I actually think that this relationship is the most storied for Sean; enemies to grudging acceptance. The speed with which two men who have a fight can become friends is almost ridiculous and Sean and Jack have one thing that binds them together – they both love Amy.’

In scenes that air on Monday, the situation escalates when information handed to the police results in Craig’s bank account being frozen, he hits Amy.

Later, Sean comes up with a plan to lure Amy to Walford. Something Rob tells us ‘family is important to Sean and the lengths he will go to, to protect it.’

It’s been 20 years since Rob stepped foot in Walford for the first time but Rob teased ‘the 42-year-old Sean Slater is much more interesting than 21-year-old Sean Slater, be prepared for something old and something new.’

‘I left EastEnders in 2008 as a 23-year-old boy and was lucky to spend the next 19 years of my life working around the world, always championing EastEnders and stating the fact that one day I wanted to walk in Sean’s shoes again.’

EastEnders airs Monday – Thursday on BBC One with catchup via iPlayer, Classic EastEnders airs on Drama with catchup on U.
