In a landmark moment for the long-running Welsh soap, the episode will be driven entirely by female characters, both on-screen and behind the scenes, showcasing the immense talent of the cast while also recognising the work of key female crew members.

The story follows Mel, played by Elain Llwyd, as she unexpectedly goes into labour in a remote location. With only Kay, Dani, Lowri, Sian, and Elen there to support her, the episode highlights the resilience and strength of women in the face of adversity. Other characters appearing include Anna, Mair, Meinir, Sophie, Gwenno, Caitlin, and Lea.

Speaking about the significance of the episode, Elain Llwyd said: ‘It’s inspiring to see so many talented women coming together to create a story that truly reflects the strength and resilience of women. It’s an honour to be part of something that celebrates female talent in Welsh television.’

The episode was crafted by an entirely female production team, with Kristy Jones scripting the episode and Rhian Mair directing. Behind the scenes, the Senior Management Team includes Producers Annes Wyn and Lleucu Gruffydd, Script Editor Llio Non, Production Coordinator Elena Brown, and Production Manager Sioned Roberts. Women also take the lead across departments such as makeup, costume, design, digital, and post-production, further cementing the significance of the episode.

Producer Lleucu Gruffydd expressed her pride in the project, stating: ‘We are incredibly proud to mark International Women’s Day with an episode that highlights the strength, creativity, and talent of the women who make Rownd a Rownd what it is. It’s a pleasure to work with these strong, talented women every day.’

Annes Wyn, who has produced the series for six years, added: ‘We’ve been discussing doing something special for this day for several years, and I’m extremely proud that we’ve managed to create an exciting episode that fits within the current storylines.’

Speaking exclusively to Eastieoaks.com, Director Rhian Mair reflected on the experience: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed working with so many talented women on this special episode of Rownd a Rownd. Certainly, it had its challenges, but hopefully, it encompasses the affection and loyalty that women can feel for each other in a crisis.’

This episode also forms part of Rownd a Rownd’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the series marking its official milestone in September. ‘The official anniversary is in September, but we have plans throughout the year to mark this special milestone, and one of them is this all-female episode,’ Lleucu Gruffydd added.
