Levi fantasises to Mackenzie about what the early pregnancy kicks could mean for the baby’s future – maybe they’re about to raise a future Olympian. Mackenzie jokes for him not to put too many expectations on their baby so early. They’re in a good place when they run into Harper and Archie. Harper tells them that Cash is on the way to pick up Tane, he’s being released from prison just in time for Archie’s birthday today. Over lunch Mackenzie shares with Harper that she’s pregnant, and they celebrate. After their meal, Harper shares that she’s nervous to see Tane. Mackenzie tells her there’s no use avoiding him – the sooner they talk, the better.
Jo hangs around the station, chasing David up for updates on Tane’s release and Kerrie’s arrest. Cash has gone to prison to pick up Tane and bring him home. Jo is putting off returning to Tane’s to welcome him back: she still feels guilty that she didn’t stand by his side. David gets a call: there was an incident at the prison and Tane has been taken to hospital. David and Jo head straight there.
Tane is escorted into the hospital following a fight at the prison: multiple inmates jumped a prison guard and Tane stepped in to save him. He has significant injuries: contusions to the abdomen, hypotensive, and he’s tachycardic. Levi escorts him to resus and orders an ultrasound. In resus, Tane wakes up delirious and agitated, fighting off the nurses, doctor, and police. Cash manages to calm him down then Levi runs an ultrasound. He’s suffered a low-grade rupture which might require surgery and to his dismay he won’t be released in time for Archie’s birthday. Jo gets to the hospital and apologises to Tane for not staying by his side, but Tane falls unconscious once more. Tane’s oxygen stats plummet, and he needs to be intubated… His condition is worsening. Jo jumps in to assist Levi with Tane’s medical care.
David gets up to speed with Tane’s condition. David regrets that Tane got into this altercation so close to his release, but Cash lays the blame on themselves – if they had released him the day earlier like they’d said this would never have happened. David forces Cash to get his head straight before diving into work finding Kerrie. Cash reluctantly agrees to take a break.
Cash heads to Salt for his break and he crosses paths with Mackenzie and Harper. Cash breaks the news to them about Tane’s worsening condition. Mackenzie is furious that David didn’t expedite his release following the evidence – this could have been avoided! Mackenzie heads to the hospital to visit Tane. Harper receives a message out of the blue from Kerrie. Harper heads straight to the police station and David gets immediately to work putting a trace on Kerrie’s number so they can arrest her.
When Mackenzie arrives at the hospital to visit Tane, Levi stops her: this level of stress is not conducive to her health during pregnancy. Mackenzie begrudgingly leaves. She takes a detour to the Police Station and tells David that if Tane dies it’s on his head.
