Home and Away airs on 5STAR at 6:30pm
At Salt, Cash reproaches Mackenzie for her outburst at David: if anyone is responsible for Tane’s condition, it’s him. Lacey is picking up some takeaway and overhears Mackenzie accusing David. Lacey drops by the station to lend some emotional support to David, then leaves him to continue the investigation. Lacey runs into Mackenzie and tells her to back off from David – it’s not his fault that Tane is in this condition, but Mackenzie doubles down and throws it back in Lacey’s face.
Cash follows up with Harper about the trace that they put on Kerrie’s phone and proposes sending Kerrie a photo of Archie to bait her into responding. Harper takes the advice, then soon after receives a call. Harper answers the phone, connected to a tracing device at the station. The IT officer tells Harper that it’s a burner phone, therefore she must keep the call going for as long as possible to secure the trace. Harper stretches the call out for as long as she can and Kerrie accuses her of being responsible for the warrant that’s out for her arrest… Harper denies Kerrie’s accusations, stalling her, but Kerrie gets furious and hangs up. The trace device has localised her exact coordinates, just in the nick of time. David calls the dispatch to find and arrest her.
Tane’s oxygen levels are plummeting, Levi and Jo are stumped on the cause of his worsening condition. Jo investigates every possibility. Pulmonary embolism? Bronchospasm? Eventually Jo narrows it down to a blockage in the intubation tube from which oxygen is escaping. Jo’s intervention might have saved his life, but there’s still a long way to go as the new blood results reveal his kidney function is declining. He is at risk of renal failure. Mackenzie bursts into the hospital room and panics at the sight of the intubation tube. She tells Levi off for not calling her like he promised he would if things got worse. Levi explains that they could very well lose him – the renal failure acts like an avalanche overtaking the body as the organs shut down one by one. Later, Mackenzie has a private, emotional moment by an unconscious Tane’s bedside – he has to fight through this so that he can become her child’s godfather.
Meanwhile Jo reconvenes with the rest of the Langham’s back at the Surf Club. Jo is overwhelmed with grief at the possibility of losing Tane. She defers to Lacey for advice, hoping to glean from her experience losing Theo. Lacey spirals being reminded of Theo, her grief resurfacing. Justin runs into her at the Surf Club, and senses she is emotionally fraught. He tries to lend some support, but she walks out, overwhelmed with emotion. Justin follows her out and offers to lend an ear if she should ever need it. Lacey opens up that she feels offended that Jo likened her situation with Tane to that of Lacey with Theo. Lacey believes that there’s one key difference: Tane’s still here. Lacey doesn’t know if she can be as supportive to Jo as she was with her, because they’re completely different situations.
